Creativity with Govaplast Boards

Boardwalks in forested areas or natural settings, made of recycled plastics.

Govaplast has become a trusted name in the application of profiles made from 100% recycled plastic for various public sector uses, including street furniture, anti-parking bollards and  antiskid boards in marinas. But our Gova planks can be applied in many more situations. Be creative, the possibilities are endless! We would like to explain a fantastic application: boardwalks in forested areas or natural settings. A boardwalk or corduroy road was traditionally a wooden path made of logs, round poles, or thick branches laid across the path to make it passable through swampy areas. Nowadays, the beams are placed on an understructure of supports, keeping the boardwalk elevated above the ground. Often, planks are used to create the path, which can also be referred to as a decking path.
“Since the purpose of a boardwalk or decking path is to allow people to cross a wet environment with dry feet, the understructure is inevitably often submerged in water. Wooden constructions require continuous maintenance and replacement of rotting posts and planks, which is a standard expense included in municipal budgets. Additionally, using wood requires extra safety measures. Wet wood becomes slippery, and it’s common to see chicken wire placed over the paths to prevent accidents.”
With this in mind, Govaplast developed a construction made entirely from recycled Govaplast plastic.
  • The supporting posts, rotfree, are anchored into the ground, and the platform is built on top.
  • The platform itself consists of tongue-and-groove boards with either a 2.8 cm or 3.8 cm thickness, depending on the span.
  • The boards are well supported, the span depends on the project according to width, load and terrain, with the sides finished with 5 x 12 cm planks.
“CPMT from Ghent University created a simulation based on various factors (temperature, load, material properties) to provide the necessary data for designing a Govaplast boardwalk or decking path.”

This is certain: Govaplast profiles offer numerous advantages.

  • anti-slip
  • rot-free
  • durable
  • low maintenance
  • ecological
